Course information
Lessons/Chamber Music
- Teacher assignments will be made after all applications are received.
- Students receive two lessons a week.
- Extra lessons with faculty members can be arranged for a fee. Each faculty member sets their own fee and is paid directly by the student.
- Improvisation, orchestra repertoire, and master classes with all Faculty/Guest Faculty are included with the course fee.
- Piano accompaniment services include 1 rehearsal, 1 lesson and 1 concert per week. Beyond this amount, an additional fee applies.
- We make a strong attempt to place students in chamber music groups. However, participation is based completely on registration numbers and is not guaranteed for all students. Priority is given to those students who register for the full 4-week session.
- Students may arrange their own groups after arriving in Pilsen. Existing or pre-formed groups can also be considered for admission.
Students under 15:
Students under 15 years old must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian by Czech law. Parents must live in the same room with their child and pay the same dorm rate as students. Parents of students 15 and older may not stay in the dorm, but we can suggest nearby accommodations for you.
Students under 18:
Students under 18 must have the consent form signed by their parent or guardian releasing IMAP from liability. For the form see:
http://www.ima-pilsen.com/documents.php.
Medical Coverage
- Some sort of Accident and Medical insurance is mandatory.
- Czech National Health Insurance is highly recommended and available for $100.
- There is a resident medical doctor in the dorm on call for all IMAP students and a hospital nearby for emergencies.
- Health forms are required upon acceptance and can be downloaded at health-form.php.
Living arrangements
Our dormitory is the dormitory of the High School of Engineering. All rooms for string players are private rooms so students can practice in their room without disturbance. Pianists share a room and practice at the Conservatory. The dormitory is locked 24-hours a day and entrance is only with a magnetic key card. There is a 24-hour guard at the front desk and the area is safe with a police station 250 meters away. It is convenient to the tram, which takes students to the Conservatory for all daily activities. Within the complex is a gymnasium, kitchen on most floors, a large rehearsal space with stage and piano suitable for informal concerts and a football field next door. There is a swimming pool within a five-minute walk. There is a pay phone available for those without cell phones. The dormitory is managed by Mrs. Jaroslava Faistova, a very capable and understanding professional. There are counselors on each girls and boys under 18 dormitory floor, and they will maintain a curfew for those under 18, mandated by Czech law. There is no alcohol allowed in the dormitory for any students regardless of age. Students over 18 can also choose to stay in local accommodations.

Travel:
Students must make their own travel arrangements to Prague by air or directly to Pilsen by train. A round trip bus will be provided for students from the Prague International Airport on the arrival day (only) and from the dorm to the airport on departure day (only) for a fee of $40 one way. Private taxis are available for those arriving or departing on other days. It is also possible to use public transportation from the airport to Pilsen. Contact Danae Witter for any travel advice at: danae.witter@gmail.com
